Cassel, Baum Lake, Hat #1, and Lake Britton

In Cassel, part of Hat Creek is diverted into a canal by PG&E, above powerhouse Hat #1. You can fish this slow flowing water above Hat #1 powerhouse before it drops into Baum Lake. This spot holds good numbers of fish, although it can be crowded with fishermen at times. If you drive a short ways and fish below the powerhouse, limits are common and an occasional trophy fish can be caught.

Baum Lake has easy access for shore fisherman and a shallow boat ramp for people with small boats or float tubes. This is a great winter lake, as fish up to 20 inches are not uncommon. It's stocked with brown, rainbow, and eagle lake trout.

Bait fishermen do well with night crawlers and powerbait. Fly fishermen use midge patterns, leaches, olive wooly buggers, and prince callabetis nymphs, to name a few.

If you're looking for a change of pace, Lake Britton holds good numbers of small mouth bass, large mouth bass, and crappie. This is a recreation lake with boating, jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding and swimming. There are two boat ramps.
